I think I found something that could help those who suffer pain from arthritis, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.
I have had fibro for many years, it appears suddenly without warning then goes away just as mysteriously. For a few weeks now, I have been suffering with total body muscle spasms/cramps plus something new -- right lower back pain that isn't responding to the hot pack treatments and Arthritis strength tylenol. At this point, I would be willing to try just about anything to put an end to it. So I've been educating myself searching in Bing for any information about how to ease the pain.
It all started with the muscle spasms and cramping over my entire body a few weeks ago. I admit that It sounds unrealistic. You know what it feels like to have a muscle cramp in the calf right? Multiply that with a multi-cramp episode in the toes, upper thigh, arm, neck. It was so uncomfortable and scarey I scheduled a doctor's appointment. Dx: probable fibromyalgia, have some blood work and schedule a trip to the Rheumatologist.
Two weeks after the fibro just about disappeared, it was back along with severe pain in the lower right side of my back. It was different than the other times, but I figured it was another bout of fibromyalgia. I walked out with prescriptions for the pain and a muscle relaxer. Two days later, the pain in my back was so bad I couldn't get out of bed, not even with my DH gently pulling me off the edge of the bed. I just couldn't straighten my body without having extreme pain. It was frightening! Back to the doc again. This time he added prednisone for the inflammation and I had to go for xrays and am still waiting for them to schedule an MRI. Hopefully this will help with the diagnosis and any other treatment.
Alternative remedies have always sparked my interest, and when I read about the nightshades connection to arthritis/ostoarthritis/fibro pain. I was eager to read more.
I haven't eliminated any of the "nightshade veggies" from my food plan yet but, I am anxious to try it. When I saw the list of offenders, I said to myself, oh wow, I eat many of them on a regular basis. Especially tomatoes and green peppers, my husband and I love them, cauliflower too...oh no and hot peppers. There goes my turkey chili.
Way back in the day, I remember asking my DH to get a 40# box of tomatoes for me in the middle of winter during a snowstorm. Is that crazy or what? And, no I wasn't pregnant. I ate them like apples watching TV. I never had a clue at that time that I was a compulsive overeater, but eating that many tomatoes is a prime example of the insanity of the disease that we in OA share. A couple months after that tomato binge, I experienced symptoms of a stomach ulcer which still show up if I over-indulge in any kind of acidic foods. Another one of the foods on the nightshade list is eggplant, darn it. I love Eggplant Parm and especially when it's slathered with good Italian spaghetti sauce. Not a good choice now. I may have to give that favorite up.
