Certain things prompt me to write about them. Either it's my opinion about valuable information I want to share, or else I'm just venting....Whatever the case, I believe we can never learn enough. Read, comment, share, that's why I'm here.

OA Works
Just for the record, since joining OA on November 19, 2009 I have lost 9.4 pounds, losing give or take a pound a month. I have maintained the weight loss, and am continuing onward with the program. I set my goal to lose 10 pounds instead of a humungous amount which seems unattainable. Once every month I weigh myself on the 1st day of the month.

Lose Dangerous Belly Fat
There's a great article in Woman's Day Nov 17th issue, health section regarding Goals to follow to 1) strenthen my immune system, 2) keep my heart healthy and 3) lose dangerous belly fat. That's the one that caught my eye.
The RX is Power Walking. Besides not looking good, belly fat has been linked to numerous health conditions -- insulin resistance, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and even premature death. Is that what we want? Not me. Women should aim for a waistline of no more thatn 35 inches...and men should keep it to 40 inches or less. Fortunately you don't have to spend hours in a gym to whittle your waist. Research shows that walking can protect you. A study published in "The Journal of the American Medical Association" found that brisk walking for 2 1/2 hours a week helped people lose 6.9 percent of the fat around their waistline (an aveage of an inch).
THE PLAN
5 times a week:
+ 5 min: warm up
+ 20 min: Power-walk
Focus on taking short, fast steps while keeping your posture tall. To increase your speed, bend your elbows to 90 degrees and keep them alongside your body (don't let them cross in front of you).
+ 5 min: Cool down

Weight Loss Now - Eldon Taylor
I purchased a self-motivation CD, "Weight Loss Now" an InnerTalk Subliminal Audio Program by Eldon Taylor. It's patented and proven WholeBrain Subliminal Method.
The CD is one hour in length. Affirmations are encoded in the music, but I can't actually hear them, all I hear is the music. "The messages enter the ear and travel to the brain where they are converted from electrical impulses to meaningful message units. The words are disguised from the conscious mind. What has in effect occurred, is simply that the conscious mind has failed to discriminate the words, while the subconscious, with its vast reservoir of knowledge and ability, processes the verbal messages. " - as shown on the pamphlet enclosed with the CD.
The subliminal affirmations are complete and all are positive. Soon the messages will come as part of your self talk, from the inside out...as a result you'll believe and act on them. There are close to 100 affirmations on the CD.
6-16-09 affirmation -- I am thin, trim, slim and healthy.
6-17-09 -- I am energetic.

Believe What You Visulaize
Losing weight with the help of creative visualization can be termed as a "mental diet". Of course, the chances of success will be greater, if in addition to visualization you reduce the amount of food you eat, follow a diet and exercise your body.
Tips for losing weight through visualization:
# Two or three times a day, sit down for several minutes in a quiet place, and visualize your body as you wish it to be. Leave your worries, doubts and other thoughts behind, and concentrate on what you are doing.
# See yourself slim and beautiful, with your ideal weight. Forget how you look now. You are creating a new reality. See yourself at the beach or pool wearing a swimming suit. See how gorgeous you look. Imagine yourself wearing all those tight clothing that you have always wanted to wear.
# Visualize your family and friends complimenting you about how gorgeous your body looks and how slim you look now. Look at the whole scene as real, and as happening right now at the present moment, not in the future.
# You can construct in your mind any other scene you wish. You can see yourself exercising, dancing, with friends, with your husband or wife, at work, etc. See yourself moving and in action. Hear people complimenting you about your slim body, and see their admiring glances. In short, make the mental image as real as possible.
# Construct in your mind images that ignite your emotions. Make them alive and colorful. Make the scenes in your mind interesting and real, and see yourself in each scene as slim, the way you will look after you lose weight.
# Never visualize that you are disgusted with food or with eating, and do not develop a loathing for any kind of food. By visualizing your body as you wish it to look, your subconscious mind will direct you to eat the appropriate food in the right quantities.
# While visualizing, and after finsihing your visualization session, don't tell yourself: "well, it is all nonsense, I cannot lose weight". If you say these words you destroy all the work you have done. When thoughts of disbelief crawl into your mind do not listen to them. Let only thoughts of your ideal body shape enter and pass through your mind.
As in everything else in life, persistence is required.
Creative visualization can help you lose weight in a most natural way.
# It can make you desire to reduce the quantities of food that you eat.
# Your body can be taught to be staisfied with smaller quantities of food.
# Creative visualization can attract to you the diet that suits you most.
# It might lead you to desire to participate in some physical exercises that will reduce your weight.
The way you think affects your body. Think on what you want to achieve, not what you want to avoid. Think about how you want to look, not about being overweight. Visualize your body as you want it to look, not as it looks now. Do not concern yourself too much with what to eat or not to eat, but with how you want your body to be. Persist with your efforts, and you will start seeing results.
It is most important to believe what you visualize. Forget past failures to lose weight and reject disbelief, doubts and negative thoughts. Keep projecting your ideal figure on the screen of your mind, and your disbelief and inner resistance will begin to fade away.

Back To Keeping Track
All is well. I'm done with the meds, no more coughing...now I can resume my exercise schedule and eat the proper foods. I gained a few pounds...well, taking Valentine's Day into account, I had a few chocolate items - ice cream and truffles. So, was I expecting to lose, really? Come on now. I knew I would eventually put on some weight. Whatever! I can shake it off now. Back to keeping track of the good stuff.
The thing to do is try not to start eating that stuff in the first place because it sets me up for more of the same which I can't afford. Now I have to lose the pounds I gained and that will take longer than I care to think about. My goal for February was to lose 5 pounds...duh! I am currently 2.6 pounds over what I originally started the month so now I have 7.6 pounds to lose instead of 5. That doesn't make sense does it? Today I am going forward with my regular menus and exercise. It will make a difference eventually....at this rate it might take a few years to get to my lifetime goal.
